Outside the porta-home, Tuesday evening

Somewhere on the island there was wretched, wretched emo, and a lot of it.

To counter act this, Artie was outside his porta-home with a tetherball set up, using his head to bounce it around. Mortimer fluttered about on the other side in a confused manner.

How did Artie playing tetherball by himself counteract emo?

Lord only knows. But here's hoping he'll succeed.

"So you are from Earth, then?"

"Quite! And you?"

"Not quite," the Doctor said, mentally sighing that he'd not stumbled upon some stranded... possibly mentally disturbed Timelord. "Though I suppose it's the closest I've got to a home, now."

"Then welcome! I am Artie! The strongest man! . . . in the world!"

The Doctor looked impressed. "That's quite strong," he said. "I'm the Doctor. Unique in the universe."

"Indeed?" Could this be source of the incredible emo? "Have you no friends?"

"I've got plenty of friends," the Doctor said. "Still making them here, however. But all throughout time and space, tons and tons of friends."

"Ah! But none quite like you? I know how that feels."

The Doctor nodded. "Exactly," he said. "So, Artie, what is it that you do around here? Other than be strong, of course."

"I protect the island from the forces of emo!"

The Doctor chuckled. "And a more valiant defender the island could not find. I'm sure you do very well at your job."

"I do try. And you, sir?"

"I fight evil," the Doctor said. "Which is really a much easier task than fighting emo, on the whole. I doubt I'd be able to ward that off, me."

Artie bounded into a dramatic pose. "It's all" he bounced and posed a few more times, "in the wrist!"

"A wonderful talent," the Doctor said. "It was nice meeting you, Artie. Well, proper meeting, you know. Words and all."
